THE TOWER
2017. Three-channel video installation.
The Tower is a meditation on destruction and transformation, on death and rebirth. Three old televisions are stacked in a precarious tower. A fourth sits to the side, its screen smashed, as if it has toppled from the top. Burnt and blackened beams surround the arrangement, remnants of destruction. The worlds in the screens appear connected: a fire started in one causes a choking cloud of smoke in another. A figure moves between the screens, his body on fire but his demeanor calm. The sequence loops, relentless and hypnotic. The work draws on the Tarot card The Tower, a symbol of sudden disaster, upheaval, and the shattering of false certainties. It also gestures toward alchemical nigredo, the psychological and spiritual process of confronting shadow, burning away shame, and moving towards wholeness.
