SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN
2015. Digital video.
Somewhere in Between is an early exploration of presence and absence, of the spaces that exist on the borders of perception. The work began as a series of interviews with people who believe they can see or speak to spirits. Their voices are anonymised, becoming both intimate and unknowable, near and far. Distorted images of graveyards, mirrored down the middle, create thresholds and divisions; spaces between life and death, certainty and doubt. Wispy forms drift over the graves, while ghostly laughter echoes and strange voices call out to us. At its core, the work is about belief, and about human experiences that cannot be fully understood.
